The successful candidate will report to the Regional Operations Manager - Southern Africa and will be responsible for, inter alia, the following:

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure that the required network SLA's are adhered to
• Oversee and provide technical support for all external maintenance teams while working on network outages.
• Access and interpret network element alarms, feeding back findings to the NOC and field teams.
• Lead and Provide oversight during planned work to ensure that changes are implemented without deviations.
• Active involvement during outages to ensure that the cases are closed in a timely manner. Facilitate regular updating from the Field.
• Develop the relationship with the BSP Field Support team to ensure smooth coordination during network outages, planned works and network deployments.
• Set up planned works to eliminate temporary repairs in the network
• Risk Management. Update and maintain the risk register
• Ensure that items on the risk register are cleared timeously.
• Ensure Operational readiness details for new services and routes are correct for acceptance, documented with all Quality requirements met. Upload the documents in the relevant tools
• Conduct structured meetings with the Service Providers, FLM and partners in the region / area
• Validation and tracking of all expenses in the Area of jurisdiction.
• Effective asset and consumable management in the Area / Region.
• Comply with Health and Safety requirements.
• Support Installation and Commissioning Activities in the Network
• ISP and OSP Support
• Back-up generator diesel expenses validation and tracking before submitting for payment

EDUCATION:

• Education: Degree holder in Electrical / Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, or related fields.
• IP certification would be an added advantage.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

• Minimum of 8 years of telecom experience
• 5 Years field maintenance / management experience
• Knowledge of SLAs and contracts
• Must be an analytical self-driven person that has a good understanding of the industry / technologies used in a core telecommunications network
• Ability to work independently, or under only general directions.
• Must be able to operate under time restraints and after hours if required
• Valid driver’s licence and defensive driving certifications
• Have some financial experience
• Have some experience with Mikrotik CPE

REQUIRED KEY COMPETENCIES/ATTRIBUTES:

• Hands-on for Field Operations Support in the area.
• Overall Operations and Maintenance support of the network in the area.
• Have a thorough understanding of core transport networks as well as maintaining infrastructure and systems for ISP, OSP, Equipment management and ancillary systems
• Thorough understanding of SDH, DWDM, ROADM, OTN
• Thorough understanding of fibre optic test and measurements
• Field Operations process improvement
• Management of Network Spares / Inventory, Network Risks, BSP and FLM.
• Self-Compliance and ensure that all partners comply with the Health & Safety in the area
• Fleet management and FLM SLA’s compliance
• Strong on-your-feet problem solving skills.
• Excellent Communication and Coordination skills
